LOS ANGELES, Feb. 14, 2012 — Carina Round, the eclectic LA-by-way-of-England singer, whom the LA …

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 14, 2012 — Carina Round, the eclectic LA-by-way-of-England singer, whom the LA Weekly recently said of: “Just when you think you have her pegged as a smart, sensitive and tuneful singer-songwriter type, she’ll break into some freaky art-rock experimentation that raise goose bumps on your arms,” is set to release Tigermending, an 11-track album produced by Round and Dan Burns on May 1 via Dehisce Records (distributed through The Orchard).

“Making my home in the creative circus of Los Angeles has allowed me the profound opportunity to develop a loving and supportive community of brilliant musicians, artists, photographers, videographers and other collaborators. I’ve been fortunate to work with and learn from some of my favorite artists old and new, which has opened me up to new roads of expression,” explains Round. Collaborators on Tigermending include Dave Stewart and Brian Eno (“The Secret of Drowning”) and Billy Corgan (“Got To Go – The L.A Song- 2000 years BC mix”).

Written and recorded in 2011, Round describes the period working on Tigermending as one of “time and freedom to experiment and explore,” which gave each song a unique personality, ranging from “guitar ragers, acoustic beauties, electronic epics, a little prog moment and all the good stuff in between with a strong backbone running through the whole record.”

As Puscifer’s opener on recent North American treks Round re-introduced herself to fans and critics with an incredibly strong reaction from both. The Orange County Register described her as “an adventurous English rocker who marshals her demons in much the same howling, dynamic manner as Patti Smith…,” The Dallas Observer said of her set: “…she wowed the gathering audience… the Brit’s material showed shades of Nick Cave, all while maintaining an original and unique feel,” and Verbicide Magazine said “her gorgeous voice reverberated through the theater.”

Carina Round tour dates (opener on all dates and Puscifer touring band member):

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 9 — Royal Thunder, the Atlanta four-piece Brooklyn Vegan described as “Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blonde fronting Black Sabbath,” have completed recording their debut album, CVI. The album will be released on CD/2xLP/Digital on May 22 via Relapse Records.

“We poured all of our hard work and passion into this 10-song LP,” says vocalist/bass player Mlny Parsonz of the band’s mid-2011 recording sessions at Aria Recording Studio in Marietta, Ga. “We saw highs and lows along the way, but in the end we made it. We made something we are so proud of. We look back on our past efforts and take with us the good, and strive to keep going and growing. We can’t wait to see what the future holds and we hope this new album is an inspiration and light in the lives of everyone who listens to it.”

The band, which includes the aforementioned Parsonz as well as founder Josh Weaver (guitar), Lee Smith (drums) and Josh Coleman (guitar) will join Black Tusk for a half dozen dates leading up to performances at SXSW (specific showcase information to be announced shortly). Royal Thunder will also perform at this Saturday’s Scion Relapse Showcase at The Roxy in Los Angeles.

Royal Thunder released a self-titled EP in 2010 which won praise from a wide variety of outlets including Paste Magazine (“blues-infused rock’n'roll, wrapped in protective barbed-metal packaging”), NPR (“a revved-up Southern hard-rocker that howls like Led Zeppelin astride a psychedelic unicorn”) and Terrorizer (“‘Royal Thunder’ grabs you right from the first listen”).

Royal Thunder tour dates:

Feb. 6, LOS ANGELES — Queens of Country, the irreverent Western tale of a lost …

Feb. 6, LOS ANGELES — Queens of Country, the irreverent Western tale of a lost iPod, line dancing and mistaken identities starring Lizzy Caplan and Ron Livingston, has just completed post-production and the filmmakers are in the process of making final decisions about where to premiere the film.

The film has already achieved cult status with a thriving online presence dedicated to the quirky comedy. The Queens of Country cast members have been at the forefront of spreading the word about the unique film with Caplan describing the film as “bananas” to Esquire Magazine during her recent barnstorm of Sundance Film Festival (supporting two forthcoming features: Save The Date and Bachelorette) and Joe Lo Truglio describing the film to Ology as “a really funny, unique movie.” Phoenix Magazine’s February issue profiled the Arizona-shot film and its directors, Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke, describing Queens of Country as “seemingly equal parts Raising Arizona and Urban Cowboy with a dash of Rocky Horror.”

Rounding out the cast and crew of Queens of Country are Maynard James Keenan, the notorious front man for alt-rock outfits Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, as Bobby Angel, Modest Mouse songwriter Isaac Brock is handling the movie’s score and the legendary rockabilly singer Wanda Jackson performs in the film.

“We’re so grateful that audiences are already lined up, if even in a virtual sense, to see Queens of Country. We definitely have a lot of love for the midnight movie. But we would never specifically set out to make one,” explained co-Director RyanPage. “But when we started seeing fans dress up like the characters in Queens of Country and show up at screenings of our other films or even outside our offices, we realized that in a very real way that we may have made something that will reach audiences in the same way a Rocky Horror Picture Show or a Priscilla, Queen of the Desert has. Just wait until everybody sees the final version.”

Producer Chris “Topper” McDaniel added, “At this point it’s about selecting the right festival to premiere the film at. It appears that we’ll have to make a very tough decision in the coming few weeks as to which of the film festival opportunities that have been presented to us to select but we hope to make an announcement by mid-March.”

A byproduct of the mounting interest in Queens of Country is that demand for Page and Pomerenke’s involvement in projects continues to grow with the duo finishing up a spec script titled The Rogue President as well as having two feature film projects in development. Producer Chris “Topper” McDaniel is directing his debut film, the documentary Music City U.S.A.

Sales of Queens of Country are being spearheaded by Cassian Elwes.

Bay Area Quintet’s New Release Co-Produced by the Rondo Brothers (Foster The People, Handsome Boy …

Bay Area Quintet’s New Release Co-Produced by the Rondo Brothers (Foster The People, Handsome Boy Modeling School), Mastered by Dave Cooley (M83, Silversun Pickups)

Feb. 2, 2011 (SAN FRANCISCO) — Loquat, the Bay Area quintet Nylon Magazine described as “refreshingly inventive” and Spin.com described as “sultry,” return this Spring with a stunning full-length album titled We Could Be Arsonists (Apr. 24, Nacional Records).

The 10-track release is extraordinarily imaginative and deeply introspective, touching on a range of subjects including space expeditions (“Time Bending”), criminal infamy (“We Could Be Arsonists”), line-up changes (“The Legion” and “Walk Out”) and even monsters under the bed (“Monsters”). Written during singer/guitarist Kylee Swenson Gordon’s pregnancy (with bass player Anthony Gordon) the album also delves into incredibly personal chapters with songs like “Seeds,” “Change of Scenery” and “Up Late.”

“We’ve never been the kind of band that writes traditional love songs,” says Kylee Swenson Gordon. “Instead, we always seem to fall down the rabbit hole, stumbling into surreal territory wherever we go.”

We Could Be Arsonists was recorded at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, Calif. with the band co-producing the set with the Rondo Brothers (Foster the People, Deltron 3030, Handsome Boy Modeling School). The album was mixed by Dave Pensado (Mary J. Blige, Beyonce), Count (DJ Shadow), Glenn Rosenstein (Madonna, Talking Heads) and Ben Ellman (Galactic). Dave Cooley (M83, Silversun Pickups) mastered the album.

We Could Be Arsonists track listing:

1. Time Bending
2. We Could Be Arsonists
3. Monsters
4. Seeds
5. Rumbling
6. Change of Scenery
7. The Legion
8. Walk Out
9. Kindling For Fire
10. Up Late

Loquat tour dates are forthcoming including performances at SXSW.

BEAK DEBUT, EYRIE, SET FOR APR. 3 RELEASE

Jan. 9, 2012 , Chicago – Beak, the post-metal quartet formed by local Chicago luminaries Chris Eichenseer and Jason Goldberg previously of The Timeout Drawer, release Eyrie, the band’s debut album on Apr. 3 via Someoddpilot Records.

Recorded and mixed in late-2011 at Engine Studios by Neil Strauch (Sage Francis, Bonnie Prince Billy), the five-track release highlights the band’s adept combination of blistering heaviness and melodic prog-rock.

“Metal for the sake of it just doesn’t interest us. We need more than heavy riffage and the trappings of the genre,” expained drummer Chris Eichenseer. “I wish we could call it something else, because to me it’s more. We’re not afraid to carry influence from our roots in post to punk rock. We’re very aware of storytelling and depth. We’re not interested in skulls.”

Vocalist Jon Slusher discussed the conceptual nature of the album: “Eyrie is the nest of a bird of prey built in a high, inaccessible place. The album is conceptual. It’s the path of ruin, the crumbling of empires and the marching of time. ”

Beak is Andy Bosnak (Guitar), Chris Eichenseer (Drums), Jason Goldberg (Bass, Vocals) and Jon Slusher (Guitar, Lead Vocals).

Eyrie track listing:

1. Angry Mother of Bones

2. Hands Collide

3. Men at Arms

4. Billions of Eyes

5. The Weight & Time

The band’s next performance is Feb. 23 at Reggie’s (Chicago) with Anvil. An April tour will be announced shortly.

Pat Mastelotto, the internationally-renowned drummer whose pioneering work with King Crimson, Mr. Mister and XTC …

Pat Mastelotto, the internationally-renowned drummer whose pioneering work with King Crimson, Mr. Mister and XTC has cemented him as one of experimental music and pop/prog-rock’s most talented percussionists, releases Recidivate, a collection of outtakes, rarities and highlights from the past 20 years of his career on Mar. 20 via Trey Gunn’s 7d Media.

“I’ve been making records for about 35 years,” explains Mastelotto, “but never put one out under my own name. I’ve never had that desire. I like to collaborate, to exchange energy with musical pals, to start with nothing and leave hours later with something. Over the years, I’ve been blessed to get to play on some wonderful music, with some special friends and felt it was time to let others hear these special moments.”

Mastelotto, a sought after collaborator, recruited several artists he has worked with over the years to participate in Recidivate including Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), Robert Fripp (King Crimson), Stick Men (Mastelotto’s ongoing touring trio with Tony Levin), Terry Bozzio (Missing Persons), Naked Truth (featuring avant-garde jazz musicians Roy Powell and Cuong Vu) and of course tracks from TU (also Ktu, Tuner, Tunisia and MPTU), Mastelotto’s long running partnership with King Crimson band mate Trey Gunn.

The 42-song collection is broken down into two 21-song discs:

* Traps – a reference to acoustic trap kits

* Buttons – a reference to electronic drumming and programming
