Eidola

Eidola returns to once again to push the limits of their art, this time with Mend, the luminescent counterpart to Eviscerate. Hailing from Salt Lake City, UT, the enigmatic existential post-hardcore band is taking their music in a new direction, exploring themes of beauty, grace, forgiveness, and love. Mend serves as a profound contrast to Eviscerate, which delved into darker territories of loss, grief, and despair. This dynamic duality, representing both light and dark, speaks to the band’s intense exploration of the human condition in all its complexity.

Released in April 2024, Eviscerate was a critically acclaimed record that underscored Eidola’s raw, genre-bending talent. Tracks like “No Weapon Formed Shall Prosper” and “Fistful Of Hornets” offered blistering arrangements, while their lyrical themes unflinchingly dissected the harsh realities of modern life. In Mend, the band retains their signature emotional depth and post- hardcore essence but ventures into a more melodic and uplifting soundscape, inviting listeners to experience the power of redemption and healing.

Eidola formed in 2012 with members Andrew Wells, Matthew Dommer, and Matt Hansen, initially earning attention in Utah’s local scene. Their debut album, The Great Glass Elephant, self-released in 2012, quickly caught the attention of Will Swan of Dance Gavin Dance, leading to their signing with Blue Swan Records. Their discography, including Degeneraterra (2015), To Speak, To Listen (2017), and The Architect (2021), reveals an ongoing evolution of sound, traversing philosophy, psychology, and existential inquiry. The band’s journey has not been without hardship. In 2019, Wells faced a mental health crisis, which he bravely shared, catalyzing a commitment to raising mental health awareness.

With The Architect, released in 2021, Eidola cemented their place in the post-hardcore landscape and expanded their following internationally. The release of Eviscerate and it’s subsequent album cycle also marked the beginning of a significant change, with longtime bassist James Johnson departing, and new members Skylar Caporicci and Reese Ortenberg joining the lineup. Together, Eidola embarks on the next chapter, delivering Mend, an album that symbolizes resilience, renewal, and their unrelenting pursuit of artistry.
