Brown Bird Release “Fits Of Reason” on April 2

Jan. 9, 2013, Providence, R.I. – Brown Bird, the Rhode Island-based duo that landed on NPR’s Best Folk Albums of 2011 for the album Salt For Salt, are set to release Fits of Reason on April 2 via Supply & Demand Music.

“We’re showing a little bit more of our international influences,” explains guitarist/percussionist/singer/songwriter David Lamb.  “We’ve been listening to a lot of ’60s and ’70s psych-rock from around the world – Pakistan, Peru, Cambodia, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey – I’m playing electric guitar exclusively now and MorganEve has taken up electric bass on a few songs.  There are hints of some of these influences on previous albums but Fits of Reason is stronger in that direction.

Lamb and MorganEve Swain (violin, cello, upright bass, electric bass, vocals) recorded the 11-song release during the Winter of 2012 at Machines With Magnets following an extensive touring schedule that had the pair joining The Devil Makes Three, Trampled By Turtles and Yonder Mountain String Band.

No Depression, speaking of 2011’s Salt For Salt, described the album as “an extended spiritual rave-up of folk and blues which rages darkly on, expressing the eternal human battle to remain relevant through conflict and challenge,” while NPR said “it’s challenging to describe the combination of blues riffs, country twang and Eastern European musical scales that pervade Salt for Salt.  The effect, though, is easy to understand:  It’s music that’s exciting and heartbreaking at the same time.”

Brown Bird will be touring North America extensively throughout 2013 with a new round of dates kicking off on Jan. 19 at Club Helsinki in Hudson, N.Y.  An April 28 performance at the Stagecoach Festival has been confirmed.
